Some of us parents of little kids are always looking for a unicorn: a place where you can easily take your kids without sacrificing quality. I’ve slowly been trying to amass a list of such places, and Bluestone Lane in Los Altos is on my short list: it’s beautifully renovated, has fast service, high chairs, a large shaded terrace, and delicious coffee. Aside from meeting those minimum mom requirements, it’s close to work, so I can come here by myself on my way in when I have an extra hour here or there and need to GSD.
Downtown Los Altos is close to the epicenter of my life. When I can, I join a run club with other moms and kids, and we come to Bluestone afterwards with a large crowd. The moms delight in the baristas’ coffee skills and the kids love the pastries. There are plenty of high chairs to contain your littles while they snack–a requirement. And there’s also a little dining room oin the back to help keep us all contained when the kids get the wiggles.
One aspect that I’ve added to my list of “musts” in eating out is aesthetics, and Bluestone’s got them. The café is cozy, airy, and light without not boring or sterile. And who doesn’t want to “Brekkie All Day” the Australian way? No Aussie restaurant is complete without avo toast, and if you’re looking for a perfectly made flat white, you should definitely check out Bluestone.
