The Safe Skincare Movement + Beautycounter FAQs

I joined a movement for safer, cleaner beauty a year ago by becoming a Beautycounter consultant. Why?

  1. The U.S. doesn’t closely regulate the ingredients in our personal care products. Beautycounter does and is actively trying to change legislation along with other companies and organizations.
  2. Beautycounter is safe for breastfeeding and pregnant moms.
  3. The products are high quality and make me feel like royalty.
  4. Beautycounter is a B Corporation.
  5. Consulting can be a secondary source of income for my family, though #1 above is my motivation.

Since joining Beautycounter, I’ve become a team member along with an amazing group of women who help others discover safer skincare and makeup and make extra income on their own time. This was key for me! We are all in different stages of life, in different parts of the U.S. but this brings us together. We have students, nurses, realtors, teachers, photographers, makeup artists, mothers, and grandmothers on our team and and we all build our Beautycounter businesses into our busy lives.

Some of us spend a couple hours per week on Beautycounter, and some are top consultants who have made it their primary focus. Some of us use it to earn income for fun money, some of family vacations, and some to grow their primary business. Some of our team members have left the rate race to solely focus on the safe beauty movement.

Most importantly, we all have FUN running our businesses and supporting each other. I have some awesome coworkers. If you want to join us, email me: thelifesovalley@gmail.com

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Is Beautycounter a MLM?

Yes AND NO. it is also a direct retail brand. You can go directly to the Beautycounter site and purchase whatever you want. If you go through a consultant, you’ll not only be supporting a small business, you’ll also likely get some perks. I show my regular clients love with incentives and treats from time to time.

Why build the brand this way? The CEO came up with this model to support the movement and mission of Beautycounter to get “safer products into the hands of everyone.” Think about this: last December, the CEO of Beautycounter was asked to speak to Congress about changing legislation for personal care products. To put this into perspective, this was only the second time in 40 years that Congress spoke with industry leaders. (!!)

Are there any physical stores?

Yes! There’s a pop up on Prince Street in New York City, in Denver at Free Market, and currently on Natucket and in Boston (the newest pop ups!). Check here for current location info.

I first tried Beautycounter four years ago when it was available at all Target stores nationwide. But I didn’t become a consultant until a 18 months ago! And yes, I should have done it sooner.

Is there a sales minimum?

A consultant has to sell $1200 in qualifying volume sales (orders from others + your own purchases) every 6 months. Six months is PLENTY of time to do that if you work consistently to grow your business. Most people on our team hit this goal in the first 3-4 months and sometimes faster because we have great mentors.

The people who don’t make $1200 usually don’t put in the time or effort. It’s true! So, next question…

What happens if I miss the minimum?

Almost nothing. You “compress” to being a Band of Beauty member.

What is Band of Beauty?

Band of Beauty is like Amazon Prime meets Nordy Club. For $29/year, you earn 10% from each purchase back in credits (like Notes). Shipping on purchases over $100 is free (and returns are ALWAYS free, so figure out that trick), and you get a free gift when you sign up. This month it’s the award-winning Overnight Resurfacing Peel. IT’S LIKE A MAGIC ERASER FOR YOUR FACE!!! Love.

SIGN ME UP!

You can sign up here to become a consultant. But could you email me first? Sometimes I’ll pay your fee to join or offer you another incentive! thelifesovalley@gmail.com

The fee covers marketing materials for you and your personal website where your clients can shop.

Do you really make money doing this?

Sometimes. There are different levels of commission, and they range from 25% to 35%. Like I said, you reap what you sow. I have a full-time job that limits my time outside of work and my home life. I do what I can and find satisfaction in that!

Selling products is super annoying. <Eye Roll> I don’t want to be one of those people.

Easy. Then don’t be one of those people. If you join, do it because you’re like me: you like the mission. You think the way the personal care industry isn’t quite right. You think what we put in and on our bodies should be better for us, like it is in the European Union and Australia. Oh, and you love the products. Maybe not ALL of them, but most of them. And it’s EASY for busy moms like me.

If you sign up for any other reason, you probably won’t be successful. People love authenticity. And you share the other things you love with your friends and family, so why wouldn’t you share this, too?

Are there any other perks to being a consultant?

YES. Beautycounter is part of a clean consortium. We get discounts on Clean Slate products….right now, we have 25% off for the next week or so! I can’t wait to try Le Cote nail polish and a clean deodorant.

What’s the return policy?

Easy. Every box comes with a return label. You have 60 days to try a product and then pop it back in the mail if you’re unhappy.

Are the products really that great?

I think so, but you should try them for yourself. Here are some of the most popular ones!
