Why You Should Care That Everlane is Coming to Palo Alto

Everlane isn’t new to the market, but it may be new to you. With only four storefronts in the U.S., I was excited to see that this SF-based company is opening a fifth store at Stanford Shopping Center on November 14th.

The brand, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in the new year, prides itself for “Timeless Pieces Made with High Quality Materials Designed to Last for Years. Exceptional quality. Grade-A cashmere. Transparent pricing. Ethical factories.” Even though it was newer to me, Everlane’s annual revenue is $40B/year, a clear indicator of the giant mom vortex I’ve been living in to not have purchased anything until this past summer. And even then, it was a surprise. My good friend/work buddy wore a chic, black linen jumpsuit to work one day and was receiving compliments left and right, including from me. I commented that I didn’t even own a jumpsuit and didn’t think I could get away with it, and she was out to prove me wrong.

Apparently aside from having pursued a PhD in Chemistry (you can’t swing a dead cat around Silicon Valley without hitting a PhD), she also worked as a personal shopper at one point and has a really good eye for design, quality, and fit. Lo and behold, a package arrived from Everlane to my house a few weeks later. Weeks? Yes. This black linen jumpsuit sells out frequently, and Everlane uses ethical factories. Sometimes you have to wait, and it was well worth it. I venmo’ed my friend, and I wore that jumpsuit easily 3 times per week this summer. I felt like I was wearing pajamas and got compliments. Unbelievable. Feeling comfortable and looking stylish at work can be a challenge!

Not only does Everlane have said jumpsuit, it also carries a ready supply of solid, quality basics. Their leather tote bag is gorgeous. It has no logo, frills, or bling; it’s literally a quality leather tote bag. If you read my post on the Declutter Showdown, you should know that I plan on buying a cashmere sweater from Everlane and trying out their t-shirts soon. I may be late to the game, but I love having easily accessible, semi-locally and ethically produced clothing, and I am so happy I’ll be able to find this at Stanford.
